Lavenham Stories - Experts in Quilting
A Factory Exchange
This autumn we’ve come together with the like minded people at Hiut Denim to create a quilted gilet that brings together the best parts of both our respective brands.
Both success stories in British manufacturing and experts in our respective fields, it made perfect sense to come together on a project that embodies our shared values of quality and craftmanship.
A little bit about Hiut Denim and how they came to be. The small town of Cardigan in Wales is the home of the brand and their factory. With a population of just 4,000, 400 of those people used to make jeans from 1970 – 2002 producing around 35,000 pairs per week.
When the factory shut abruptly it was a blow to the town and let the skill of those 400 people – experts at making jeans – go to waste.
Reviving an Industry
Hiut Denim was founded in 2012 with the aim of putting all that skill to good use. In the same way that we at the Lavenham factory commit to our field of expertise – quilted outwer – Hiut focus on ‘doing one thing well’, the thing being making superior quality denim jeans.
Made using only the best quality selvedge denim the brand specialise in making authentic, heavyweight jeans for men and women.
Hiut Denim and Lavenham
The gilet we have created together showcases both brands’ expertise and identity but first and foremost it is a practical piece designed and made to last for years to come. Crafted from two durable workwear fabrics, quilted in our classic 2” diamond pattern the versatile piece works as an outer when layered over knitwear, or as a jacket liner for the coldest days.
