This Phoebe English and Lavenham collection is a collaboration and continuing dialogue between the two British brands. PHOEBE ENGLISH was founded in 2011 and has since focused on creating clothing with close attention to detail and narrative. The studio has dual roots in textile craftsmanship and reduced environmental impact: aiming to develop ways of working with design, and its surrounding systems, that better fit within the realities of our planetary boundaries.
Each piece is made to order in a limited run. We have adopted the Phoebe English Studio’s own method of selling which reduces waste and ensures we make only what is needed. We will be collecting orders over a four-week period for delivery in early December. We will still accept returns on these items, please get in touch for more information.
This gilet is made from patchworked surplus fabric reclaimed from the Lavenham archive and is a combination of waxed cottons, quilted in a cross and plus pattern. A subtle contrast of navy and black, lined with a GOTS certified organic cotton and wadded with a fully traceable wool wadding, an alternative to down or polyester that is fully biodegradable. Naturally temperature regulating and breathable, the wool used in this collection is sourced from the locality surrounding the Lavenham factory rooting the pieces firmly in the history and traditions of Lavenham village itself.
Featuring a considered and contemporary silhouette that can be worn as an outer layer or layered under a coat. Finished with Codelite buttons which are a biodegradable alternative to plastic and made from a protein naturally occurring in milk. Sustainable and traceable, these buttons are made in the UK by Courtney & co based in the Cotswolds, who are reviving traditional button making craft combined with new technology.
